Over the final weekend of the Festival of Archaeology, we will be digging 30 test pits around the village of Anstey in Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire. The early history of Anstey remains something of a mystery but there are clues waiting to be discovered in back gardens around the village. Beneath the earth are objects left behind by the people who lived in Anstey hundreds, even thousands of years ago.
We are looking for 30 householders in Anstey who would be prepared to let us dig a small hole in their garden, and volunteers to help us dig and wash the finds. All equipment and training will be provided but you must register with us to participate.
The excavation is part of the Charnwood Roots project and has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Anstey Town Charity.
